Semantic Search
Semantic search is a retrieval method that matches a query to results by meaning rather than exact keywords, comparing embedding vectors to find conceptually similar content.
By converting text into embeddings and ranking by vector similarity, semantic search returns relevant items even when they share no exact words with the query.
It is the retrieval mechanism beneath most RAG systems and is often combined with keyword search in a hybrid approach for better coverage.
