Vector Database
A vector database is a database that stores data as numerical embedding vectors and retrieves items by similarity, enabling semantic search over text, images, or other content.
Instead of matching exact keywords, a vector database finds the entries whose embeddings are nearest to a query, which is how meaning-based retrieval works.
Vector databases are the storage layer beneath most retrieval-augmented generation systems, holding the embeddings an agent searches at query time.
